Salem Joseph Farmand, his wife Lorena, and their daughter Lucia Josefina live in New York City where they minister at a local Catholic parish, along with multiple CUNY schools. They are both formed through the Encounter School of ministry, and facilitate scripture study groups, lead music ministries, coordinate and participate in intercessory prayer teams, deliverance and inner healing prayer and speak publicly in multifaceted Catholic environments throughout the city.
The Farmand family is blessed and excited to be on mission, steeped in both the contemplative and active dimensions of the Gospel. Our mission is to fulfill what Jesus prayed in the garden in John 17:20-21 where He said, “I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.” We desire to be ever deepening mystical union with Christ and to lead others to their unique same.
I (Salem) began consistent active ministry in college at the University of Florida, leading Bible studies through partnership with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). I continued living discipleship in NYC as a part-time youth minister, free lance Catholic Speaker and worship leader after college. Lorena was involved with FOCUS in both graduate and undergraduate school, leading Bible studies as well. Lorena and I’s past and current formation in the Encounter School of Ministry has enabled us to go deeper in, not only proclaiming the Gospel with the intellect, but demonstrating the Gospel through supernatural ministry in the prophetic and healing dimensions seen in scripture.
Our experience and motivation as a domestic church on mission is centered on Christ’s words in Mt 6:33 “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Our methods of ministry are rooted in keeping first things first by first ministering from our identity as sons and daughters of God, remaining in relationship with Him through contemplative and active prayer, and then going forth in Christ’s authority to “make disciples of all nations.” In this we seek to encounter and build God’s Kingdom in those around us by praying with them, leading people in scripture study, engaging in basic fellowship, making our home (which is our domestic church building) available to others in hospitality, and by saying yes to any ministry opportunities we discern are good for our family and the upbuilding of the Kingdom of God. We seek to have a radical availability by listening to God’s promptings, even in the spontaneous moments of family life.
In Mt 10:42 Jesus tells us "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
The Farmand family mission is committed to living discipleship and building up disciples. In providing your financial generosity to our family’s mission, we will be ministering together as instruments of God’s providence and mercy. Our mission will not be possible, if not for the generosity of those who will finance our full-time ministry. We do not seek to earn God’s love through transaction, but we do take Him at His word and promise that He will reward us for our generosity to those seeking Him. This includes his reward for you helping me and my family as we seek God and His will more closely in mission.Thank God for being the True Giver of all good things.
Please understand, your gift to our family will not simply be for the good fruit in the short-term of this mission, but it will also enable my young family to lay fortified foundations in Christ for our pilgrim journey to Heaven, and the long-term fruit that will bear. Moreover, this opportunity is an invitation to live into the infinite flow of love between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who are always pouring into each other. May you and I pour into each other as partners in mission, under the infinite generosity of our God and Father.
Our family trusts and thanks God in advance for the ways in which He is and will provide for us in this adventure of full-time family mission. Join us!
